Startwel® Ignition System

Startwel® Ignition System

The ignition system is engineered to fit precisely into the round opening in the lid of the Pandrol Crucible. Once the crucible is prepped and ready to pour, the Startwel® Ignition System can be placed in the lid and deployed safely by removing the metal clip grounding the prongs.

Description

The Startwel® Ignition System, developed and patented by Pandrol, allows the welder to easily ignite the weld charge to initiate the pour process of the Pandrol aluminothermic weld, replacing the traditional “sparkler” igniter design.

  • The Startwel® Ignition System provides a simple and modern method for welders to ignite the weld charge and begin the pouring process during a Pandrol aluminothermic weld. Developed and patented by Pandrol, this system is designed to replace the traditional “sparkler” style igniter.
  • The ignition device is designed to fit accurately into the circular opening located in the lid of the Pandrol crucible.
Once the crucible has been prepared and is ready for pouring, the Startwel® unit is positioned in the lid and activated safely by removing the metal clip that grounds the prongs.
  • When ignited, a small drop of molten metal falls into the crucible, triggering the combustion of the aluminothermic charge.

Go through our range of aluminothermic welding solutions designed to safely and efficiently join or repair railway rails in demanding track environments. This specialised process uses an exothermic reaction to produce molten metal that forms a strong, durable weld between rail sections, helping ensure the integrity and safety of railway infrastructure
